Launching Hackpack: Conquering burnout through Community

Hackpack brings a human element to the isolating process of studying for programming interviews.

How it all started

When I was studying for programming interviews, I felt lonely and depressed. I was the only person I knew that was focused on landing a job at Big Tech. No one understood why I was skipping out on social events or getting up 3 hours before work to study. To make things worse, after studying for almost a year, I failed my Google interview. Frustration set in, I was following all of the conventional advice(lots of leetcode & CTCI), what was I doing wrong? To make matters worse, I’d frequently burnout. I was on a 3 month cycle: 2 months preparing + 1 month burnt out. Every-time I was going through the 1 month of burnout I would be tempted to give up.

I finally got into a groove using my Algorithm Grading Rubric, daily checklist system, mock interviews, and a lot of practice problems. It took a lot of self motivation and consistency to get there, but I eventually received offers from Facebook & Google.

Fast forward to Hackpack, a YC backed company. Hackpack was created to provide engineers studying for big tech interviews with a community of people to turn to. We know how hard it is to go through this process alone and how important it is to have people surrounding you who are just as serious about this as you are. We provide support as your motivation dips and celebrate when you ace your Facebook technical interview.

What do you get when you join Hackpack?

Hackpack members hold each other accountable and support one another. We send daily check-ins on what we are working on and have smaller syncs to discuss our weekly goals. We also do mock interviews, problem solving sessions, and events with members of big tech. Everyone in Hackpack is working towards the same goal. This is your place to meet your future fellow colleagues on your way to success.

When you join Hackpack, you are holding yourself accountable to your studying and with the support of the community, making those periods of burnout significantly less derailing.
